Is scoring high marks really that important? Probably 99% of you would say a definite 'YES'! How can it not be important? I definitely do not want to be labelled by the teacher as a "weak student" in class isn't it?
The reality of the fact is that, scoring high marks does not guarantee you a good career in life, neither does it promise you high salary when you grow up. Just look at Bills Gates, or even Einstein, they did not pass their examinations with flying colours.
So what does it mean? Important or not important? The morale of the story is, scoring a particular level allows you the luxury of CHOICE. Choice to go to School A or School B. Choice to go to JC or Polytechnic. Choice to go Engineering or Business. If you do not attain a certain marks, probably you are left with little or no choice.
Even though high marks do not guarantee you success in life, but it gives you the flexibility in choosing what you 'probably' like, rather than end up with something you do not fancy. Singaporean parents are smart, and typically kiasu. They want the best for their children so that they can enter the 'better' and 'reputable' schools. This is why it is so important to build up their foundation since young so that good learnings habits and techniques are picked up along the way.You can now choose how you want to help your child. Let him/her continue their own methods of learning, or learn new techniques to help them learn more effectively? The answer lies with you.
